I’m floating on a little island of ice and I’m all alone! As everyone jumps into what they consider “March Madness” I set sail on my own for the greatest time of year for me as well. The NCAA College Hockey playoffs and “Frozen Four” followed by the NHL Stanley cup playoffs. You see my favorite college team is number one in the country in hockey and my favorite NHL team number one in the league too! It would be a great time for me expect…
I can’t see hardly any of the games of both teams as they go for their respective championships. I don’t have the fox package or the NHL package on my TV anymore (thanks to a certain person who’s made it impossible for me to afford it call “the X”.) So what do I do as a lonely hockey fanatic living just an exit or 2 off the sacred basketball grounds called “tobacco road”? With nothing on my TV but round ball I’ve tried to get back into the fun of the tournament and if Duke had lost to the college named after a horse race last night I just might have started to enjoy some of it. But lets face it, this DJ’s heart is frozen, as in frozen from years of being along side a giant sheet of ice where men with sticks chase this little rubber biscuit while on skates and occasionally have to push a member of the other team out of the way so they can get that stick on that puck and send it whistling past the goal keeper and into the net.
Believe me, I grew up in a place rich in basketball history. I can’t even name all the great basketball players who’ve come out of Michigan, but when you grow up playing ball in the same area, and at the same time, as Magic Johnson and Jay Vincent, well basketball was and still is mighty big in the state that has the city known as “Hockeytown” too.
So don’t get me wrong, I do get the game and enjoy it on occasion. But I miss my hockey and I feel like this town owes me some way to be able to see my hockey games after you took away the GRRROWL, from me a few years ago. So tell me, which one of you people is inviting me over for the college hockey playoffs, or for the first few rounds of the Stanley cup playoffs? I mean you can come and watch basketball at my house anytime, if you can help a poor brotha out with a little puck age this year eh?
